We hosted three separate parties at three different homes. Our favorite residents were each able to experience a Beach Party, a Disco Party and an Elegant Tea Party. The atmosphere that each theme created allowed residents and volunteers to join each other in an abundance of joy. Many children that attended also played a major role in uplifting the spirits of the elderly. Smiles were constant, the rooms were glowing and the love of Jesus was extended in extravagant ways. Nursing Home Outreach created an opportunity for volunteers to be the hands and feet of Jesus, restoring hope and love in the hearts of the lonely and brokenhearted.

By Andrew Friedrichs: Serve Team member

I have been a part of many outreaches in the years I have attended HPC, but few have been as exciting as the Baton Rouge July 4th Celebration outreach. There were thousands of people in attendance, and based on the response to last year’s successful outreach we had expected to be well-received yet again. And we were correct; Serve Team members had to barely walk 10 feet before they would be stopped by person after person to get their free gum or BlowPop. It wasn’t long before we were completely out of snacks, and after a quick debrief and time of prayer we ate together as a team and watched the impressive fireworks display put on by one of the local media outlets.
The sheer number of people that were at the levee made it difficult to not to stop and just look around- there was such a variety of people from so many different walks of life. It was truly a reminder of the diversity of our nation and the freedoms that each person in our nation enjoy, as well as an awesome reminder of the creativity of our God- and the thankful heart we should each possess that He not only made us who we are, but that He brought us into this time and place, where we are free to worship Him without fear of condemnation.

Check out this update from Ps. Ben Rodgers at our Healing Place Church campus in Swaziland, Africa.

There is a huge issue that doesn’t get talked about a lot in ministry to the poor. That issue is how do we help people that need assistance without creating dependency??

This is a big issue on the plate for Children’s Cup as well. We help thousands of children throughout the world and our vision is to see them raised up to be world changers for Jesus that are contributors. That means that they will have to learn to work hard and take the initiative to take advantage of opportunities that come their way.

One of the ways we do this is by having SERVE DAYS at our CarePoints. We work together with the community to decide a way that all the kids can best serve the community to show the love of Jesus and to teach the children that our purpose as Christians is serving.

This past week my family together with a little army of orphaned children did exactly that. We had a little rally to talk with the kids about the importance of serving. Then we marched out in the community to help a homestead of a very elderly couple that was in desperate need.

Wow, did it mess me up to see ORPHANS out there serving… washing clothes, cleaning the house, raking the yard, and collecting firewood. Levi and I were with the other boys on the firewood patrol. We walked for about a mile and a half to the little forest to cut some firewood for the elderly couple. Our little group of 7 year old to 12 year olds promptly went to work cutting trees and chopping them into small pieces to be used for a cooking fire.

All the kids had a great time, an elderly couple experienced the love of Jesus, and the next generation learned that it is better to give than to receive.

Check out this awesome video from Life Church in Manurewa, New...

Check out this awesome video from Life Church in Manurewa, New Zealand.
Last month we had our annual Amplified youth conference. Thousands of junior high and high school students came together to worship, fellowship, and hear inspiring messages from several speakers from across the world, including Matthew Barnett and Christine Caine. Not only were students able to take part in great worship experiences, but they were also given an opportunity to use their hearts and creativity to plan and execute outreaches in the Baton Rouge area. A thousand students were divided into teams, given $25 gift cards (for supplies), and told to go out at SERVE!

We were blown away by the ideas these teams came up with and the stories they shared. From giving away Valentine’s flowers at Waffle Houses, cleaning business windows, returning shopping carts from store parking lots, and visiting homeless shelters, students were able to truly take ownership of the heart of serving and make it their own.

To highlight one of these student lead outreaches, a team of 10th and 11th grade guys went to Wal Mart and bought dozens of chocolate bars. They then headed to a local assisted living facility to help host a “Valentine’s Day Senior Prom”. They were able to pass out free chocolate, serve refreshments, dance, and pray with the residents. The team reported that they had a great time celebrating Valentine’s Day with the elderly who are so often forgotten. This is what Servolution is all about.

Servolution Hillsong

Check out this note from one of our good friends at Hillsong, Sydney. Dave is on the front lines in serving and reaching people for the cause of Christ.

Hillsong is so excited to be partnering with Servolution 2010. We are pumped to be able to share the love of God with people in our community through serving them, and to be doing it with so many other churches around the world.

We are hoping to have 1,000+ volunteers participate in Sydney and Brisbane during Servolution doing all sorts of great acts of service like youth sporting tournaments, makeover’s of homeless refuges, graffiti blitz’s, homeless fun day out, BBQ’s of University campuses, home renovations + heaps more.

I encourage any church thinking about jumping on board to JUST DO IT! Servolution is about getting our hands dirty and demonstrating what God is all about: LOVE.

Our mission to share God’s love is definitely being felt in Haiti where there is great need right now. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus! Check back regularly to stay up to date with relief efforts.

Here’s a few of the ways you’ve made a difference:

• Donated to Samaritan’s Purse as they are accomplishing much on the ground there. They also update with “Daily Situational Reports” so you can stay up to date with everything that is being done.

• Supported a Haitian pastor whose influence is critical to the relief efforts. He and his family will be taken care of so that he can concentrate on ministering to the community.

• Hundreds of dollars worth of medical supplies have been shipped to the Love a Child compound where they are being used daily.

• Purchased 25 tents through The New Haiti Project for Schools and Churches.

• Sent several assessment teams to organize our long term strategy and meet with local officials and pastors.

• Donated resources to Disaster Network, an organization who is also a critical presence on the ground.

Besides the things we have already done, we are also working on a few more. Please be in prayer with us as we continue to work on the details and decide what is our best long-term strategy.

Space Heaters

Today, we were faced with a huge opportunity to reach out to many people in the Baton Rouge area. Weather forecasts have predicted a hard freeze heading towards us tonight; many families in Baton Rouge and the surrounding area are without the luxury of central heating in their homes. Knowing this need, we were able to purchase one hundred space heaters, this afternoon. Currently, the heaters are being delivered to both our Baton Rouge and Donaldsonville Dream Centers and will be given to families in need. We are so honored that God would allow us this opportunity to share His love by means of meeting a simple, tangible need.

Just the Beginning

If you were one of the 500+ volunteers that came out to Servolution on Saturday then you got to see first-hand how many lives were touched. If you didn’t make it out, here’s what you missed: 4000 packs of gum, 2200 bottles of water, 150 hot dogs, 100 burgers, 800 peices of fried chicken, 143 bags of grocercies, 720 cold drinks, hundreds of fingernails polished, 60 yards cleaned, 2 1/2 houses painted, dozens of cars washed, hundreds of jumpshots, 50+ medical/dental appointments and too many other items to mention.

Along with the games and give-aways, this is what else we did: prayed for people, offered hope, fed the hungry, healed the sick, visited widows, played with orphans, shared the Gospel, cleaned neighborhoods, remembered the forgotten and demonstrated Jesus-style serving. Hundreds of volunteers reached out and touched thousands of lives. That’s how God does math.

Servolution was a great day, but it’s just the beginning. We have the ability to make every day Servolution in our own lives. We don’t need 4000 packs of gum; we can start with one stick offered to a co-worker. We can pay for a stranger’s coffee, invite a new friend to dinner, cut the neighbor’s yard while we’re cutting our own. There are dozens of opportunities to show the love of Jesus every day…we just need to watch for them. Serving others doesn’t have to be an outreach; it can be a lifestyle. Let’s live it!
